DBT at Clearview

At Clearview Women’s Center, we can help you modify your behaviors and thoughts using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). DBT is a skill-building treatment approach that emphasizes the development of four skill sets:

  1. Mindfulness, to help you learn to live in the moment and fully experience your emotions and senses.
  2. Interpersonal effectiveness, which can help you increase your assertiveness and relationship skills.
  3. Emotion regulation, to help you listen more closely to your emotions and learn to better manage them.
  4. Distress tolerance, which can help you find betters ways to control impulsive behaviors.

DBT was originally developed to treat people with Borderline Personality Disorder, but it has proven effective for the treatment of such disorders as depression, Bipolar Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety disorders, Dependent Personality Disorder, eating disorders, and substance abuse.

At Clearview Women’s Center, DBT is used throughout the treatment process. All staff members are educated in the DBT model to provide you with the 24-hour support and assistance you need. DBT is often used in conjunction with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Somatic Experiencing (SE) therapies.
